So it seems that some fellow Opponauts are not as car savvy as they should.
This is not an Honda Civic with an Acura grille, it's a proper Acura. Model name is 1.6 EL. It was a Canadian exclusivity. It's a sport sedan that was competing against the E46 BMW 320i.
The more you know, I guess.

It's on those kinds of posts where the Canadian Opponauts out themselves.

Proper Acura

The states didn't get the CSX either, correct? Funny how when the Canadian exclusive cars stopped, Acura's cool factor plummeted.
(Edit: I'm not saying the CSX was cool, however.)

You call THAT a proper Acura?
THIS is a proper Acura.

Yes, it's basically the predecessor to the ILX, just exclusive to Canuckistan.
I would hardly call it a legitimate competitor to a 3-series though.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:25 |

Technically, the EL IS a Civic with a acura grille; since it was a rebadged Civic with the D16 mill.

While you are right in that this was an Acura, lets call it for what it really is. A Civic with Accord taillights and Acura headlamps.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:26 |

Damn right
This too:

Clearly fake. No snow and the pants are missing the yellow stripe, as well as being the wrong colour.

My family has once
It's surprisingly good
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:30 |

It's literally a rebadged Civic.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:30 |

What would you call this (besides the obvious)
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:31 |
|
yes very much yes! it's on of my favorite acura's next to the integra type R and NSX. This is a proper business man coupe.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:32 |

On the same note, this is a proper Oldsmobile. Gave the X3 a run for its money.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:32 |

Except when it was in Japan.
(Japan didn't like the bugeye headlights so after a couple years Honda made the front end more normal for them.)
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:33 |

I had one for a couple of year. I liked it a lot.
Luxurious, sporty and good looking.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:33 |

I'd call it not real.

Oye, even without calling out the person by name, we don't take arguments with other oppo people or people anywhere in gawker and post new posts to continue the argument, even for Canadians, it is not done. No action today but be aware in the future.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:35 |

It's not Canadian Exclusive as it's sold as the Honda Domani and the Isuzu Gemini in Japan. It is a rebadged civic.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:36 |

We did. It's called the Civic. The CSX is the same as the Civic, but with the JDM body panels instead.

OK understood, I just wanted to set the record straight. I didn't want to offend anyone, and if I did, I'm sincerely sorry.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:38 |

I wouldn't say sporty
Or luxurious
It's kinda good looking
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:38 |

Is the obvious 'vapor'?
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:39 |

By "competing against the E46 320i," you mean, "was hoped by at least one person at Honda to be cross-shopped against the E46 320i."
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:39 |

Who in the hell designed that front end?
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:40 |

Don't sweat it, you certainly weren't a dick about it, just FYI for the future.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:40 |

i was wondering which way you would go with it
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:43 |

Vapor.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:43 |

You mean it gave the X5 a ride for its money. The Bravada became the Saab 9-7x after the unfortunate demise of Oldsmobile.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:44 |

Using the word "designed" is giving who ever did it a lot of credit.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:46 |

I do not agree, but your are entitle to your own opinions., or in common parlance around these parts, oppopinions :-)
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:46 |

It's a sport sedan that was competing against the E46 BMW 320i
As we all know: 127HP FWD > 150-170HP RWD

The Honda version Integra NEVER had bug eyed headlights ever. Only the Acura version had the bugeyes. The picture you posted is an early Type R(it had 4 bolt lugs rather than the later 5 bolt lugs) and it has the "normal" lights.
But in saying all this the Honda Acura was always way nicer looking than the Acura Integra.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:53 |

At least they changed the interior for the Saab though. But you're right, I always thought the X5 was bigger but after looking at lengths on wiki, that doesn't seem to be the case.
I will say though, the generation I posted was 10 inches shorter than the one you posted and it felt tiny on the inside. Which is why I said X3.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:56 |

It's an Accord wearing a cheap suit. It looked pretty slick in 1996 when it debuted, but I wouldn't go so far as calling it luxurious.
The ITR, on the other hand, was glorious. Easily the most entertaining of anything I've ever driven. A buddy owned a '00 since new until '09, when some asshole stole it out of the driveway the one night he had forgotten to put it in the garage. They recovered the bare shell a week later, with literally everything gone. They even took all the glass(the ITR glass was thinner than standard Integras to save weight). I wouldn't even own one because you are almost guaranteed to have it stolen.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:58 |

Yeah, but if BMW had made an X5 at that time, it would have been similar in size.
Model bloat...
![]() 12/03/2014 at 11:58 |

i think that is a civic
![]() 12/03/2014 at 12:01 |

Ok, now what about the weight. The E46 was well known to be overweight.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 12:06 |
|
Actually they both became fatties.
X5: 1st gen - 183in / 2nd gen - 191in
Bravada: 2nd gen - 180in / 3rd gen - 191
I actually learned something on oppo today …. unfortunately its about two cars I couldn't care less about.

I saw one of those up Canuckistan way once, and had to double take before I realized it was actually an Acura model & not an Autozone job.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 12:19 |

If we go by the way it is in Japan, there is no Acura, there is only Honda.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 12:21 |

except it's not an opinion, it's a fact:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_EL
''The EL is a rebadged Honda Civic with a higher level of features.''
It was built at the Alliston plant (where the Civic was made), and everything up to the front end was identical.
Even the dash was the same, except that the EL has fake wood to cover the plastic, but they shared the same steering.
Hell, even Honda was happy to refer to the EL's 'long-standing heritage as the best-selling car in Canada for X years'', which meant the Civic.

Just look at the seats
![]() 12/03/2014 at 12:30 |

I wouldn't really call it an opinion, since it's kinda a fact. Kinda like how my Fiat 500 is a Punto underneath, but with a sexier body.

And these days it always seem to be driven by complete assholes. Like the dumbass woman who was tailgating me last night on the highway in freezing rain.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 12:36 |

Honda. Acura. Same thing.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 12:38 |

Sorry, but I'm right .
Honda debuted the third generation model in 1993 in Japan at Honda Verno locations. Acura followed in 1994. It had an unusual four headlight front end design which was dubbed "bug eyes" by some enthusiasts. Standard power (in Japan) from the B18B engine increased to 142 hp (105.9 kW). In the U.S., the B18B1 produced slightly less power due to a lower compression ratio (emissions related). The top model was known in Japan as "Si", and it was powered by a B18C engine with a power of 178 PS (131 kW; 176 hp) vtec . The bug eye headlights proved unpopular so the Integra was revised in 1996 with only minor cosmetic updates including elongated flat headlights and an optional bodykit, the top model was relabeled the Integra SiR.
And some photographic evidence:

My pleasure !

Well look at that! You learn something new everyday. My bad. But I am right that there was never Bugeyed Honda Integra Type-R
![]() 12/03/2014 at 13:20 |

...Which are standard Si seats covered in leather instead of fabric:
![]() 12/03/2014 at 14:21 |
|
well.... different hood, front and rear bumpers, headlights, grill, front fenders, upgraded seats and fabrics, slightly different lower dash portion, and dash available in black (only way to get a type R black dash in LHD), but... it's basically a civic :P I want one hardcore!
![]() 12/03/2014 at 14:25 |

Honda Domani?
Isuzu Gemini?
![]() 12/03/2014 at 14:27 |

wha wha whaaaaa? :P
![]() 12/03/2014 at 14:29 |

and just to make it all far too confusing, a custom bumper with EL upper part with a lower EK bumper melded together.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 14:31 |
|
and some pure sex. Acura EL front end with DC5 recaros, k-series swap, and EK BYS bumper custom molded to fit the EL/Domani front end.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 15:46 |

Soooo, a fancy Civic.
![]() 12/03/2014 at 20:11 |

Important: This is a Mustang GT. It is not based on the same platform as the Mustang V6. It's a bespoke unibody, interior, everything. It's competing with the Ferrari F12 and Lamborghini Aventador. The more you know...
Seriously, the EL is a Civic. The panels, the interior are interchangeable. I often see Civic hatchbacks with EL fronts. The Cavalier-Sunfire brothers were more different than the Civic-EL.

What about the CSX?
![]() 12/04/2014 at 14:30 |

The CSX came later and only lasted for one generation., but it was a very good sport sedan.
